Unwisely calculated risk the Ethiopian government took, has come to haunt them. Intervining in neighbor countries, while there is still problem at home was very stupid decision to begin with. Whether the Islamists are backed by others or not, it was inevitable that the Somali people would have fought Ethiopia anyway. Anyone who has a slightest knowledge of Ethiopian and Somali peoples’ past history know that they do not trust each other. I think Meles got in to this war thinking he can divert attention from his own political problems at home. He also wants to impress U.S. and get aid and political backing from U.S. I am sure he will receive some support in the name of terrorism; however, history has repeatedly shown that the U.S. government will give their back once they gain what they want. They did remove the democratically elected government from Congo and put Mobutu, (just to turn around and accuse him of human right violation…), Manuel Noriega of Panama, etc... What Meles needs to do now is try to find political solution to the Somali’s problem, and make peace with his rival country Eritrea.
I hope one day African people will learn to decide their destiny by themselves and stop depending on western leaders to tell them what to do. I hope their will rise a leader in Ethiopia who will stand against western oppressors and not be their puppy.
Our Somali bothers and sisters should get united more and get rid off the invader Woyane(TPLF) a minority rebels leaded by Meles Zenawi. We Ethiopians believe that Melese Zenawi is not only the enemy of Ethiopia, but he is also the number one enemy of Africa, and we hope that Somalis understand that. All Africans, east Africans in particular, should come together to free themselves from the traitors like Zenawi who betray Africa for the interest of Westerns.

It is not the Ethiopian troops in Somalia, it is Meles Zenawi's troops. The invasion is opposed by all Ethiopians, opposition groups inside and outside Ethiopia. It was done by Meles Zenawi in order to get money and military weapon from the United States in order to kill the democratic aspiration of the Ethiopian people.
It is the darkest day for Ethioipian History. Ethioipia had never invaded any country in its entire long history. Now Meles Zenawi a leader from Tigary, a minority group invading a neighbouring country in order to survive in power for himself and few of the privilged Tigrayan.
It is shame for USA, that it becomes an obstacle for democracy in Ethiopia.

I have been living in Ethiopia for quite a while, and it is wrong to say that no one here supports the Ethiopian military in giving assistance to the TFG in Somalia. It is clear that most opinions expressed above have no clue about the full truth here in Ethiopia or the reality of extremeist, radical Islamic forces in Somalia. Osama Bin Laden himself has been quoted in the Economist as saying that he views the Horn of Africa as his third front after Iraq and Afghanistan. Ethiopia is not the puppet of the US, despite what others here have said. Ethiopia acted in its own self interest and is paying a heavy price with both lives and money. The US has not provided any monetary return to Ethiopia for its role in Somalia. Of course, the US and Ethiopia share common interests in Somalia, and I think the US is pleased with the fact that Ethiopia has taken positive action with regard to the situation in Somalia. Ethiopia would have done it with or without US backing. If anyone thinks otherwise, they obviously don't know the Ethiopian mindset.
After all there is God!!
Please people show me where the war on terror has succeded? Iraq? Afghanistan? i bet not. Then this makes me wonder what meles was drinking when he decided to invade somalia. It makes me sick to my stomuck to read stupid comments about the situation unfolding in Somalia. Who in the right mind would think that Meles Zenawi got in to this mess to divert home grown pressure unless those who want to make a political benefit out of this war. What is the pressure? this is what many people fail to understan. The present day Ethiopia is not the Ethiopia that you know ten years ago. Hate can never be considered pressure. The past regimes in Ethiopia tried to pressure people accept their political agenda by force. It didn't work, rather it egnited a wide spread resistance and teh result you know it exile to most of you and your families. It is the same old song that has been ringing in our ears for years now. A song co-ordinated and put in display by few blood suckers in the diaspora and their ill-minded supporter in Eritrea. Meles as you may recall got in to Addis Ababa wearing plastic shoes, yet he invisioned the kind of Ethiopia that he can pass on to the next generation. He has done extraordinary job despite the fact that he is pocked and disturbed by so many of you who don't want to see this country move forward specially if it is done by a person from north. Since he is doing things colorfully that most of you fail to do, you don't have any other option but to try hard until you don't breaht any more. You can write what ever pleases you sitting on your comfortable chair, but the reality is not on the chair you or your propellers are sitting, rather it is on the ground of Ethiopia and its neibors. Any Ethiopian with the true sense of integrity would like to see a prosporous Ethiopia that is being build by hard working Ethiopians. Having said this let me tell you what really is going to happen to the situation that is in somalia. The only thing that you will see is the pictures of Issaias Afewerki scattered on the streets of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Sudan Yemen and Djibouti. since he will not be alive any more to harm or help harm Ethiopia and Ethiopians. Somali leaders call for immediate and unconditional withdrawal of invading Ethiopian forces

Asmara, 18 April 2007 – Somali leaders who have been holding a meeting here from April 10 to 17 on the objective situation in their country have called for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the invading Ethiopian forces.
In a joint communiqué they issued following their week-long meeting, the Spokesman of the Somali Parliament, Sherif Hassan Sheik Aden, the Chairman of the Executive Council of the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC), Sheik Sheirf Sheik Ahmed and Eng. Hussein Mohammed Farah Aideed expressed thanks to the Government of Eritrea and particularly to President Isaias Afwerki for the role he is playing to promote a solution to the Somali issue by the Somali themselves. They asserted that the people of Somalia have the capacity and potential to resolve their issue themselves.
In the 11- point joint communiqué, the Somali leaders referred to the 15 failed peace processes starting from 1991 due to external interferences, they underlined that first and foremost the invading forces should withdraw if national reconciliation is to be achieved as well as peace and stability to be ascertained in Somalia.
The Somali leaders further pointed out that “the so-called peacekeeping force is a ‘Trojan horse’ for the TPLF regime’s invasion”, and they underscored that its silence and failure to take any measures in the face of the war crimes perpetrated against the Somali people by the regime proves such a conspiracy.
Pointing out that US policy in Somalia is a destructive one as it undermines the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in violation of the Charter principles of the AU and UN, they indicated that the facts on the grounds regarding Washington’s role confirms US support to the invading Ethiopian forces.
In conclusion, Sherif Hassan Sheik Aden, Sheik Sheirf Sheik Ahmed and Eng. Hussein Mohammed Farah Aideed disclosed that in the event the invading force does not withdraw peacefully, the Somali people have risen up in unison to drive it out by force.
The press conference at Hager Media Hall with in the premises of the Ministry of Information was broadcast live through ERI-TV, the Voice of the Broad masses of Eritrea and Aljazeera TV respectively, and was attended by a number of diplomats, local and foreign journalists and invited guests.
Most of you guys are sick in your mind. You know what Meles (the puppet) is doing to the Somalia people because he is getting supported by the US. Are you saying that he is not getting any help? Assume the judicial system in Ethiopia is functioning “independently” and you are the presiding judge in the courtroom, you are not Kemal Bedri rather the ideal ethical judge who utilizes his/her position to deliver equal justice to all Ethiopians abiding by your professional oath and fulfilling your civic duties to the best of your abilities. I am in your courtroom accused of either one of the following two crimes. In which one of the two cases would you find me responsible for crimes committed during the brutal Mengistu era?
1. I am 40 years old and I am in your courtroom charged for crimes committed by “my father”30 years ago, DNA result confirmed your assumption that “I am Mengistu’s daughter”
2. I am found not to be Mengistu’s daughter but I was charged for crimes committed during Mengistu’s era because I was a military who had served his dictatorial government. The DA had presented ample evidence showing that I shot and killed a number of innocent Ethiopians; many had testified that I had tortured them.
Society expects judges to be fair the same way policemen and members of the military are expected to defend the rule of law. No body should be above the law including Prime Minister Melese Zenawi. In addition all Ethiopians citizens should have equal protection of the law. It is against the Ethiopian constitution to take life unjustly. As we all know, the government of Ethiopia had been found guilty of using excessive force against innocent civilians by its own commission
Just like you, I am an advocator of peaceful resistance against injustice and as such I hope Ethiopians will come together to peacefully end injustice in Ethiopia. Peacefully demanding for natural and democratic rights is a citizenry obligation of every member of society including the military and the judiciary and should not be interpreted as a call for bloodshed.
P.S. I wish so called “brilliant” Melese Zenawi was to utilize his intelligence for the betterment of the lives of the Ethiopian people. What a waste, brilliance with severely compromised vision!

I think you live in one of the western countries. But those countries did not achieve their Democratic governance overnight. Decomocrcy is not an event. It is a process and the participant must understand it in order to achieve its purpose. Even if Kinigit was the winner of the 2005 election, that does not necessarily means Ethiopia could have achieved democracy by now or in 10 years time. It could have been even worse. Look what happened to the party after its leaders were sent to prison. Now the party is divided into 2 major factions. This is a party that could not govern itself let alone a country that has enormous challenges. No individual or party can bring democracy to Ethiopia as long as its people are living under the cloud of famine. The country's economic condition must be improved first before all Ethiopian can enjoy a full democracy. I can give you one example: China. They have one of the worlds’ undemocratic government. But look what is happening to the Chinese in the last few years. Economics forces are forcing the government to change its domestic polices.

In my opinion neither democracy nor autocracy are cultures or processes they are forms of governments. Autocratic governments rule by force violating the people’s natural rights including the right to live, while democratic governments respect the rights of the people they govern. He has unlimited access to health care so he does not care as to what happens to the rest of the population health wise. His vision for the country and for the people he governs is basically nonexistent. Unlike Melese, Hu Jintao is a nationalistic and his dream has been to make China a superpower, he has facilitated the growth of several industries in China. Melese and his government dream about their personal account in Swiss Bank, their greatest challenge is to please donor countries so they can collect a fat check on behalf of the poor people they misgovern.

I believe Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd president of the United States, but how was the life of the blacks during his presidency. Even though he preached those words, those words were meaningless for those blacks who lived at that time. It took more than 150 years for the United States to get where it’s now. Even today, peoples’ rights are being systematically violated, especially during voting time. That means even in America, Thomas Jefferson’s words have not fully materialized as of yet.

I think Hu Jintao was elected in 2003. For china “education and fair taxation” are recent phenomena. What I’m trying try to compare china with Ethiopia is when China was under those autocrat leaders. I’m trying to compare apple with apple. ….What brought Mr. Jintao to power is the recent economic boom.

You believe that whatever the majority decide is always right and “democracy” can only be accomplished by majority vote. If the majority decided that a certain segment of the population cannot vote, then we can conclude that the minority should accept that fact because the issue was dealt democratically.
Before we build a democratic country, first we have to be able to coexist peacefully. For some people their paramount issue is not how they live with a democratic Ethiopia, but they just want separate from it. This is just one example. The country has been confronted with so many problems for centuries. These problems cannot be solved overnight. Quick fix does not work there. In fact it might lead us to even more problems.
There are so many theories that cannot be empirically proven in real life.
I said all these because I’m a very realistic person.

I am Somalian, I know well that Meles does not represent Ethiopian people, he is taking direct order from Bush, totally disregarding the people he claim to represent's own interest; Somalia and Ethiopia are next door to each other while USA is millian of miles away, hence, whatever, Meles will or have created will hurn the great people of Somalia and Ethiopia years to come, unless they reliase that Meles does not represent the Ethiopian, in fact, during recent years Meles was killing openly the Ethiopian. Meles's in disriminate mass killing inside Ethiopia makes rather more sick, because, for Somalia, he will loose within next few months. Currently, Meles Wayanne are either beig killed, captured or could not move outside their base and countless of them fleing to yemen and kenya.
The mission is now to seek Ethiopia without mad Meles and horn of without dict.
The reason Meles accepted to invade Somalia was clearly to grab American money and also distract world eyes from terrible atrocity his regime conducting inside Ethiopia; Summery execution and imprisonment without trial are common in Ethiopia now than ever before. Moreover, his regime is weak and unpopular as Somalia’s interim government and his troops although large in term of numbers, they are mostly conscript and ill equip to fight foreign train.
Hence, The Ethiopian troops lost nearly a thousand soldier from late January up to now according local experts and nearly one hundred soldiers fled to Yemen last months alone, also unknown number of Ethiopian soldier are hold in Somalia. The major risk for Meles’s regime is now the war is spreading inside Ethiopia as Ethiopian tribes such as Oromo (the Majority in Ethiopia) and Amhara trying to grab the opportunity this situation presenting.

A fair and honest judicial system would have to be set up to adopt laws respecting all peoples, tribes, and their beliefs.

I have to agree with (MAUTAZEKOZEKO) the only way Ethiopia & Somalia can coexsist is by the Ethiopian government to withdraw its troops from all parts of somali land, and that includes WESTERN SOMALIA or OGADENIA. Untill that happens i dont think things would change for the better between the two countries.
