At least 18 injured by turbulence on SAA flight to New York
Jun 26, 2007, 8:27 GMT
Johannesburg - At least 15 passengers and three crew members on a South Africa Airways (SAA) flight from Johannesburg to New York were injured after the plane was rattled by extreme turbulence, reports said Tuesday.
Flight SA203, carrying 172 passengers, was preparing to descend to the Senegalese capital Dakar in West Africa, where it was to refuel before crossing the Atlantic Ocean, when it entered the swirling air currents early Monday, the Citizen newspaper reported.
The pilot managed to safely land the aircraft in Dakar and the flight continued on to New York a few hours later.
A doctor was called to treat the injured for shock, bruising and cuts on the aircraft and later inside the airport.
