Lights go out on major ANC conference in South Africa (Extra)
Jun 28, 2007, 9:47 GMT
Johannesburg - Delegates at a major conference of South Africa's ruling ANC party were discussing policy in the dark Thursday after a power outage, triggered by a surge in electricity consumption during a current cold snap.
SAPA news agency quoted a security guard at the conference venue in Midrand near Johannesburg as saying generators were powering discussions on one side of the building.
On the other side delegates continued their talks on an organizational review of the 95-year-old party in darkness.
The four-day conference began Wednesday and runs through Saturday.
Power outages are a feature of life in South Africa, as demand regularly outstrips supply.
