Jul 21, 2007, 11:51 GMT
Algiers - Algerian security forces have killed eight suspected Islamic terrorists in the vicinity of Yakouren, about 150 kilometres east of the capital Algiers, Algerian media reported Saturday.
The victims were trapped by units of the Algerian army as they were preparing to take part in a meeting involving several leaders of the terrorist group Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
The daily L'Expression reported that several 'emirs' were among a group of 60 to 100 suspected terrorists surrounded by the army, which has been bombarding the mountainous area around Yakouren using mortars and attack helicopters.
