Zimbabwe man blows himself up following domestic tiff
Aug 8, 2007, 7:35 GMT
Harare - A Zimbabwean man blew himself up with mining explosives after he mistakenly thought he had killed his wife in a domestic tiff, reports said Wednesday.
Sydney Dhlamini, a miner in the southern mining town of Mashava strapped the explosives to his body and detonated them as neighbours watched in horror, said the state-controlled Herald daily.
The shocked neighbours picked up some of the body parts that were scattered in the yard moments after consecutive blasts left the body dismembered, said the paper.
Dhlamini is said to have knocked his wife unconscious in a fistfight after she found some tablets for a sexually-transmitted infection in their bedroom. He thought she was dead and set fire to their belongings before killing himself.
Police in the southern province of Masvingo, where Mashava is located, are worried by the increasing number of suicides sparked by marital disputes, said the Herald.
