British teacher arrested in Sudan over Mohammed teddy bear

Nairobi - A British school teacher was arrested in Sudan for insulting Islam's prophet after she allowed her students to name a teddy bear Mohammed, reports said Monday.
Gillian Gibbons had asked her students to choose a name for a teddy bear belonging to one of the pupils and an overwhelming majority chose the prophet's name, the BBC reported.
'This event was met with wide condemnation by guardians of the students,' the state-run Sudanese Media Centre said.
Her colleagues called the classroom exercise an 'innocent mistake.'
British embassy officials told the BBC it was unclear if Gibbons had been charged, but the Media Centre said charges were being prepared over insulting faith and religion.
Protests erupted around the Muslim world last year after a Danish newspaper printed cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed, which is seen as an insult in Islam.

Islam world need to take a big step back and look at themselves - it this the way you want to behave?
Respect is nothing you demand, you should earn it. There's a long way to go.
I personally have been a proud supporter of the people of Islam and offer them copious amounts of respect.
It's difficult to be a pacifist when situations like this make the headlines. It's much more difficult to respect these people and their communities/governments when they persecute people not of their faith. Sharia law should only apply to those of that faith.
What did the teddy do to deserve this? How would you like to be named after a polygamist who practiced child marriage, sanctioned attacking + killing in the month of truce, lying, spreading his religion with warfare,etc? Read the biographies! Remember that most National Socialists in Germany in the 1930's were decent folk - they just couldn't or wouldn't stand up to the evil in thei midst ... any parallels here??

If this teacher gets even one lash, we should immediately withdraw all aid.
According to the BBC, the Islamic Society in the UK sells teddy bears with prophets names on them. For example, you can get Adam the Prayer Bear. Adam is a prophet.
If the Islamic Society can do that, then why is this lady (who did not actually name the bear, the children did) being punished at all?
If Muslims themselves can’t decide on this, how are the rest of us going to be able to figure it out?
Evidently the children couldn’t figure it either.

To think, she could have been lashed or worse for such a despicable act of 'insulting Islam'!

You may still lose your head in the Islamic world - anyway!
Muslims are being killed in the South of Sudan in the more horrific conditions and what concerns these Northerners most is a toy bear the children chose to name Muhammad, as a part of a school project.
That is Islam for you!
Beat your daughter to death, and the guy gets an understanding gesture from Islamic society. Draw a picture of the Prophet and you might as well bury the guy.
And I sure that this women had all the right excuses for Islam's contradictory sensitivities, and still managed to put her foot in it, simply by allowing the children to choose the common name of a toy in a wide ranging lesson which included democracy.
Islamophobia should be replaced with the new reality of IslamoFear – the fear of the real and present danger - of Islam and many of its various aspects.
