Dec 9, 2007, 9:10 GMT
Johannesburg- Zimbabwe's controversial President Robert Mugabe financed special editions of magazines praising his government in the run-up to the EU summit in the Portuguese capital Lisbon, the South African Daily Times reported Sunday.
'Piles of magazines with front-page pictures of Mugabe, financed by the Zimbabwean government, appeared on information and conference stands,' the report said.
A special edition of the New African magazine sang Mugabe's praises. Zimbabwe's education minister had made fun of former colonialist power, Britain in one report.
Zimbabwe is presently enduring one of the worst crises in its history with inflation rates of 15,000 per cent and chronic shortages across all sectors.
