Algerian terror group targeting institutions: report
Dec 18, 2007, 11:35 GMT
Algiers - Several institutions in Algeria appear on a list of targets by the terrorist group al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, the Algerian daily El-Watan reported Tuesday.
Citing security sources, and without naming the terrorist targets, the newspaper said the Algerian government has asked the institutions and their employees to be vigilant.
Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb has claimed responsibility for several bloody attacks in Algeria this year, including the December 11 twin car bombing that targeted the seat of the Algerian Constitutional Council and the offices of several United Nations agencies in the capital Algiers.
The death toll in that attack has climbed to 41, with another 20 people still hospitalized with injuries, according to Algerian Minister for National Solidarity Djamel Ould Abbas.
Algerian media, citing hospital sources, put the death toll from the bombings as high as 72.
