Jan 15, 2008, 7:56 GMT
Harare/Johannesburg - Three people have been mauled to death by a lion in remote northern Zimbabwe, the official Herald daily reported on Tuesday.
The attack happened in Guruve in Mashonaland Central province.
The remains of the three all members of the same family were discovered in the lion's den, just 300 metres from the family's homestead.
The first victim was a 25-year-old man who was attacked when he went out of the house at night.
The second was a 73-year-old who was returning to the homestead after a journey.
A nephew witnessed the attacks and ran out of the house to raise the alarm.
When villagers responded and came to the homestead, the lion charged again, pouncing on an 80-year-old and dragging him to its den.
The lion has been killed in a joint operation by the police and the official National Parks and Wildlife Authority.
