Zimbabwean opposition leader Tsvangirai rejects runoff vote

Harare/Johannesburg - Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai told South Africa's e-tv channel Monday that he completely rejected the prospect of taking part in a second round presidential vote in Zimbabwe.
Tsvangirai sees himself as the outright victor in the March 29 first-round vote, the results of which have still not been officially announced.
A court in Harare rejected an injunction by Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) to release the results on Monday.
President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF party has meanwhile managed to push through recounts in 23 of the 210 constituencies.
Observers believe Mugabe is using the recounts to force a runoff vote against Tsvangirai, saying that Mugabe could have tampered with the ballot boxes in the two weeks since the first round.
Tsvangirai said in the interview with e-tv that he was disappointed with South African President Thabo Mbeki, who said there was no crisis in Zimbabwe.
The MDC has called a general strike for Tuesday.
