Nairobi/Khartoum - Twenty three people have been killed and many more injured in a football stadium stampede in Omdurman, near Khartoum, the Sudan Tribune reported Monday.
'Crowds trying to get into al-Mureikh football stadium in Omdurman led to the deaths of 23 people,' the newspaper quoted the Sudanese police as saying. 'The majority of them are women and children - 36 people were injured.'
The accident took place during a ceremony for youths who had just finished their basic training and were about to carry out their one-year national service.
