Harare - Zimbabwe's grieving Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on Monday called on his supporters to accept the death of his wife Susan in a weekend car crash as a genuine accident in an attempt to quash speculation of foul play.
Addressing mourners at his Harare home on his return from two days in Botswana, where he went to recover from slight injuries he sustained in Friday's accident, he said: 'I know when something like this happens there will be speculation.
'I want to assure you if it was foul play it is one in a thousand. It was an accident that took her life,' the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader, who was clad in a black suit, said in a grave voice.
'We all know that we will die one day. So let's celebrate Susan's life,' he said, recalling the 'trials and tribulations' they had lived through during his 10 years as opposition leader.
Hundreds of people crammed into the couple's modest home on Monday to pay their respects to the popular politician, who became prime minister in a unity government led by President Robert Mugabe less than a month ago. Many were in tears following his brief address.
Tsvangirai himself suffered minor injuries to the head and neck in the crash, which occurred when an aid truck struck the vehicle in which he was travelling to a rally in his hometown of Buhera.
On Monday, his right eye appeared swollen behind his sunglasses but he was no longer wearing the head bandage he wore when leaving hospital on Saturday.
Tsvangirai's comments about foul play referred to speculation that the crash might have been rigged by hardliners within Mugabe's party who oppose the unity government.
Zimbabwe has a long history of politicians being injured or killed in mysterious car crashes.

'thats what these mambo lipped people do .kill each other .
i myself am all for the return of slavery to America too......'
Well, there is a hint of truth in what you say. You also need to concede these points:
(a) White people are vastly superior at killing each other, a.k.a. World War 1 & II for example.
(b) To have slavery you need to gear up racism in the U.S. AGAIN. They have a lid on it for now, but it can return at any time. Anyways, all U.S. babies are born into debt and servitude anyways, a kind of new federalistic slavery, working of the debt of your parents.
So, in the balance of all things I would say that these black people are peaceful and really nice folk, same as the American white brother.
