Yaounde - Pope Benedict XVI on Thursday held up the peaceful coexistence of Christians and Muslims in Cameroon as an example to the rest of Africa as he met leaders of Cameroon's Muslim minority.

Benedict, on the third day of his first trip to Africa as pontiff, said that genuine religion 'rejects all forms of violence and totalitarianism' and praised Cameroon for avoiding the religious strife that has blighted neighbouring Nigeria.

'May the enthusiastic cooperation of Muslims, Catholics and other Christians in Cameroon be a beacon to other African nations of the enormous potential of an interreligious commitment to peace, justice and the common good,' he said.

Muslims comprise almost one quarter of the population of Cameroon, with Roman Catholics accounting for almost another 30 per cent.

After meeting the Muslim leaders, the pontiff held mass in Yaounde's Amadou Ahidjo stadium before an estimated 60,000 people, many of whom queued overnight to ensure entry.

The pontiff warned of the 'tyranny of materialism' and an 'erosion of values,' but also struck a positive note and asked Africans to make their homeland the 'continent of hope.'

After delivering his liturgy, Benedict handed copies of the working document for the second synod of African bishops - due to be held in Rome in October - to bishops from across the continent.

Benedict's visit has largely been overshadowed by controversy over remarks he made on the plane while travelling to Cameroon on Tuesday.

Both France and Germany criticized Benedict's statement that condoms actually aggravate the problem of HIV/AIDS.

'Such statements are a danger to public health policies and the protection of human life,' French foreign affairs ministry spokesman Eric Chevallier told journalists in Paris on Wednesday. 'The condom is an important element in the fight against the spread of AIDS.'

Campaigners also blasted the pontiff for being out of touch with the modern world.

Benedict is due to travel to Angola on Friday before returning to the Vatican on March 23, thus closing his first papal visit to Africa.

The late Pope John Paul II visited Africa 16 times - more visits than he made to any other continent.

In contrast, Benedict's only visit to the continent where the Catholic Church is growing the fastest, was as a cardinal, to the Congolese capital Kinshasa in 1987.

'rejects all forms of violence and totalitarianism'

Good.

When is he going to start marrying gay people?

Any word on letting women abort babies without being called a murderer and against god?

So, does this mean he is not going to issue edicts against scientific discovery in genetics?

When is he going to dissolve the Vatican?

I want him to answer this question: Are muslims below, equal to, or above the closeness to god that the Vatican is?

Will the pope share power with muslim officials? Say, the pope gets half and muslims get the other half of Vatican City?

He issues a boat load of edicts, runs a totalitarianism country, and forces other people into legal predicaments through political maneuvering. The pope needs to swallow gallons of his own sugar water and start behaving with equality.

Let me start:

The pope is just a guy in a robe. Any guy can dress up the same. He is nothing special.

Are you one of 'those' guys, lance? Do you dress up in dresses? We know you drool over the cleavage shots on Victoria's Secret, do you imagine yourself with a set of chestnuts, while wearing a dress? Do you wish you were a woman and beshit yourself for being just a man?

This is what happens when you don't elevate the pope above all others:

Legions of followers and idiots issue stupid condensing comments, some of which are death threats.

The fact is: The pope hardly wants equality and his followers, and the rift raft of the 'willfully ignorant', are willing to do anything to live the lie of inequality.

'There's a priest who wants to give you his blessing. (_*_)'

Please explain in detail, including full diagrams.

I'm not sure if you are meaning the priest to rape my anus or actually bless me. That is the problem with catholics in general: You don't know if they want to send you the jesus-bomb and gorge your anus, or if they truly want to be nice to you. In general, they can't distinguish between rifles and charity.

Same with the pope, he says 'coexistence', but what he does states different.

This subject requires serious discussion, not the political hypocrisy of the clergy and religious leaders.

And, as always, it would help if the clergy didn't mass rape young children, hate gays and be condescending to others that don't share their beliefs.

No, you aren't sure of anything, are you, my little cupcake. You aren't even sure of your own sexuality.

'This subject requires serious discussion'
With you? Get serious, pismire. You can't even hold an infantile position, let alone a serious one. Go back to playing with Mrs. Palmer and her five daughters. Be careful, lest the cops catch you and charge you with child molestation and rape.

Typical christian and mentally ill responses.

Disparage people. The pope does the same thing to pagans, gays and anyone else that does not adhere to his moral rule.

I doubt the sincerity of the pope's 'coexistence'. For example, I doubt I could coexist with the guy above that posts such condescending and disparaging remarks. It sounds like he wants a war.

Fortunately there are laws against such stalking and harassment in the physical world.

As is usual, you get it wrong. Perhaps you mean the real world, a concept that you are not the least familiar with.
Go back to something you know a 'little' about. Go back to mass raping your right hand.

In any event, the pope only gets away with hypocrisy and punishing statements about gays and others because there are legions of idiot hecklers ready and able to defend the faith no matter what that means.

In the middle ages they defended genocide, in contemporary times they defend things like mass child rape, gay hate, and punishing condescending remarks about muslims and other pagans.

It is hardly a peaceful institution and it is anything but about coexistence. It is all about conversion through social pressure and condescending remarks, kind of a mental warfare. And, when they can they get laws changed to exclude undesirables like gays from benefits.

Condecending: showing or characterized by condescension
Condescension: voluntary descent from one's rank or dignity in relations to an inferior.

Yes, Rance, by your words I am superior to you. How nice of you to accept this. Look up, way up. See the bottoms of my shoes. Open your mouth wide and accept this blessing of yellow rain.

Nicely done sir. Got rid of the poncin' arse again!

Pity I missed this, especially with La-la the demented riding his 'religion' fixation. At one time I thought that we might induce a modicum of sanity from him but that was far too optimistic.

If you want a really good laugh have a look at what he's posted on the science page. Stem cell research, and World Population articles.

La-la wants the entire human race to be subjected to 'cognitive testing' at age twenty and those that 'fail' (-to agree with him, no doubt) to be 'sterilised.' he states that this should have a beneficial effect on humanity after a millenium or two.

I can think of something similar that would have a beneficial effect over a far shorter timespan. If rance has any to remove in the first place!

... 'to be 'sterilised.''

Absolutely!

We will begin with the 'willfully ignorant' that mass kill muslims and others in keeping with the virtues of their religion.

Keeping with the topic of course. Ex-president Bush should have been sterilized and neutralized decades ago. It would have saved trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives. Well worth the initial effort of controlling the idiots of the world that wreak havoc.

Of course, the 'willfully ignorant', being blind to facts, are morons that can't understand how sterilizing a few people can save millions of lives, all they can do create mayhem in their frantic pursuit of blissfulness.

I could see savings, IF Bush's parents, or one of them had been sterilized.
The question remains about Rance, as single cell orgasms, organisms I mean, reproduce through cell division.
