Ban condemns bomb attacks that killed nine UN peacekeepers
Sep 17, 2009, 15:24 GMT
New York - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned the double bomb attacks against the African Union base in Mogadishu on Thursday that killed nine peacekeepers and wounding more than 30 others.
'I condemn this terrorist attack in the strongest possible terms,' Ban said in reaction to the suicide bombing that used UN-marked vehicles to access the UN compound.
'The UN is mobilising all possible measures to evacuate the wounded and to support the UN Mission in Somalia,' Ban said.
He said the UN has launched an investigation of the attacks. Among the peacekeepers killed was the deputy chief of the mission.
