Jordaan has little confidence in Bafana
Sep 22, 2009, 17:56 GMT
Johannesburg - The head of the South African local organizing committee for the 2010 World Cup, Danny Jordaan, on Tuesday said that he had little confidence in the host team.
News reports quoted Jordaan as saying at the launch of the 2009 Soccerex event in Johannesburg that many great teams from the world had already qualified and were playing well.
'Teams like England and Spain from Europe, North Korea, Korea Republic and Japan from Asia, USA and Mexico from North America and, of course, Brazil from South America. We also have Ghana and maybe Ivory Coast from Africa.
'All these countries will be great to watch, but I can't say the same about Bafana Bafana and Argentina. They are not yet up to the task. They are not to the standard of the other top teams. They are not doing well at all,' he said.
Jordaan, who is widely accredited with having been instrumental in bringing the World Cup to South Africa, said that when the country last hosted a big tournament - in 1996 when they won the African Cup of Nations - they were successful on the field of play and with the administration.
'In 2010 we will be hosting the World Cup and the administration is very good, but I cant say the same on the field of play and the more I dont talk about it the better,' he added.
South Africa has managed just two victories against New Zealand and Madagascar in their last eight games and lost five.
