Clashes on Madagascar leave two, including pastor, dead
May 20, 2010, 18:54 GMT
Antananarivo, Madagascar - Clashes between rival security forces left two people, including a pastor, dead, and five others wounded on the island nation off the eastern African coast Thursday, according to Western diplomats.
Local television reports stated that soldiers opened fire on rebel military police forces who had staked out positions in barracks in the capital.
The rebel forces, under the command of Colonel Richard Andrianjafy, oppose the government of Andry Rajoelina, who ousted President Marc Ravalomanana in 2009.
Some civilians were among the wounded. The dead pastor was a Ravalomanana supporter who was among supporters protesting Rajoelina's government near the encampment.
