Pirates release German ship, no word on ransom
Mar 2, 2011, 16:04 GMT
Papenburg, Germany - Somali pirates have released a tanker, the Ems River, two months after it was seized in the Indian Ocean, the German owner said Wednesday.
The families of the crew, seven Filipinos and one Russian, have been told that their menfolk are safe, and are well, given the circumstances, the Grona Shipping Company in Papenburg said.
The company declined comment on whether a ransom was paid.
The Ems River was captured in the Indian Ocean, 175 nautical miles off the port of Salalah in Oman, on December 27 while it was en route from the United Arab Emirates to Greece.
'The ship has been released after a lengthy dialogue with the hijackers,' a spokesman said.
