Zimbabwe police stop unauthorized pro-reforms protest march
Jun 21, 2011, 14:44 GMT
Harare - Police in Zimbabwe on Tuesday barred hundreds of demonstrators from marching into parliament to express their concern over the slow pace of democratic reforms and the poor state of the economy.
Police said demonstrators had not applied for a permit to stage the protest, which was attended mostly by women and youths.
'We will come back to parliament. No more abuse of power is all we are demanding,' said Jenni Williams of Women of Zimbabwe Arise (Woza), a pro-democracy militant group.
Police did not say if any arrests were made and no casualties were reported.
