Aug 8, 2011, 21:26 GMT
New York - The UN Security Council on Monday condemned in the 'strongest terms' an attack that killed one peacekeeper from Sierra Leone and seriously wounded another last week in Sudan's Darfur region.
The attack took place in southern Darfur on Friday when unknown gunmen fired on a UN patrol vehicle of the joint UN-African Union peacekeeping operation.
Council president Hardeep Singh Puri, the ambassador of India, presented condolences to family of the victim and the government of Sierra Leone.
He called on the Khartoum government to find the attackers and bring them swiftly before justice and stressed that 'there must be an end to impunity for those that attack peacekeepers.'
