NATO calls on neighbours to help enforce Libya arms embargo

Brussels - NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Thursday encouraged Libya's neighbours to help control any flow of weapons from the war-ravaged country, noting that an arms embargo remains in place despite the end of his alliance's mission.
'(Libya) must play a responsible role in the region. That includes preventing the spread of arms through North Africa... And neighbouring states must take action too,' he told reporters in Brussels during a regular briefing.
He noted that since the United Nations has maintained its arms embargo on Libya, it is now 'the responsibility of individual nations' to enforce it, given the end of NATO's operations in Libya. That could involve NATO members if requested, Rasmussen said
