Fighting reported in western Libya
Nov 11, 2011, 8:36 GMT
Tripoli - Clashes were being reported Friday in western Libya between two rival groups vying for control of the base of a brigade formally led by one of the sons of ousted leader Moamer Gaddafi.
The fighting, which involved machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades, began late Thursday. It was taking place in an area located about 27 kilometres west of the capital Tripoli, local media reported.
Sounds of heavy weapons could still be heard Friday in the nearby Maya area.
Several people were injured in the fighting, Quryna newspaper reported online.
Khamis Gaddafi was the commander of Brigade 32, which has been accused of using violent means to suppress anti-Gaddafi protests when they began in early February in the eastern city of Benghazi.
He was killed during fighting in Tarhouna, 80 kilometres south of the capital Tripoli, on August 29.
