ICC criticizes Malawi, Chad for failing to arrest Sudan president

New York - The International Criminal Court on Thursday criticized Malawi and Chad for failing to arrest Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir during visits to those countries.
Al-Bashir was charged in 2009 with war crimes, crimes against humanity, and crimes of extermination and rape in Darfur, where African rebel groups have fought with Khartoum-backed Arab militias since 2003.
The UN said the fighting killed more than 300,000 people and made 2.5 million others refugees.
ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo told the UN Security Council in New York that the ICC found that the Malawian and Chadian governments had failed to implement arrest warrants against al-Bashir. Malawi and Chad said the African Union does not support ICC warrants.
