Germany advises nationals to avoid Ethiopia desert after attack
Jan 19, 2012, 15:38 GMT
Berlin - The German Foreign Ministry on Thursday issued a travel warning against visits to Ethiopia's Danakil Desert and the northern region of Afar, four days after gunmen killed five European tourists.
Two Germans were among the dead. The ministry said two more were unaccounted for, but it did not confirm an Ethiopian government claim that they had been abducted.
The ministry said 30 to 40 armed men carried out the attack.
The Ethiopian government has described them as 'bandits' trained by neighbouring Eritrea. Eritrea has denied this.
