South African woman banned from ever owning a dog again
Feb 10, 2012, 7:58 GMT
Johannesburg - A South African court has ruled that a woman who let her injured dog suffer in her driveway for more than 24 hours will never be allowed to own a pet again, media reported Friday.
The woman was also given a 12-month suspended jail sentence after she was found guilty of animal cruelty for declining to get help for her pet dog, which had one of its hind legs ripped off, apparently when it was struck by a car.
The woman was also barred from owning a firearm, according to SAPA news agency.
The Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) project welcomed the verdict. Volunteers from the group had found the Jack Russel in anguish and tried to save him, but failed.
