Explosion hits Nigeria's Kaduna
Feb 14, 2012, 12:15 GMT
Abuja - An explosion hit a residential area in the Nigerian city of Kaduna on Tuesday, witnesses said, barely a week after a suicide bomber targeted military formations in the same city.
The blast occurred at Ungwar-Sarki, a densely-populated area. Security forces and hospitals have not yet said if anyone was killed or injured.
Witnesses who spoke to dpa by telephone said they saw a military helicopter on patrol after the blast.
'There were multiple blasts coming from the area, which is about one kilometre from where I was,' said Mohammed Mamoh. 'Thick smoke clouded the vicinity. I ran for my dear life,' he said.
The area is home to schools, banks and business centres. Although no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, fingers are already pointing at radical Islamist group Boko Haram.
