US congratulates Libya on anniversary of revolution
Feb 17, 2012, 17:00 GMT
Washington - The United States on Friday congratulated the people of Libya on the one-year anniversary of the revolution that toppled Moamer Gaddafi.
'Last February, few could imagine that the peaceful protesters in cities from Benghazi to Tripoli would bring down a four-decade-old dictatorship,' White House spokesman Jay Carney said in a statement.
'Through their courage and great sacrifice, and with the support of the United States and an international coalition, the Libyan people defeated a brutal regime and won their freedom.'
