Court awards record compensation for Pinochet-era killings
Jul 19, 2006, 23:20 GMT
Santiago de Chile - Chile's highest court Wednesday ordered the government to pay 6 billion pesos (112 million dollars) to families of 12 dissidents killed under the country's military regime, the highest compensation award yet for Pinochet-era crimes, a newspaper reported.
The Supreme Court upheld a December appellate court ruling that convicted 14 secret service agents of former president Augusto Pinochet's 1973-1990 dictatorship and doubled the initial compensation, the La Nacion daily said.
The government had asked the court to throw out the compensation award.
The case involves the deaths of 12 members of the far-left Patriotic Front Manuel Rodriguez who were kidnapped and killed by secret service agents in June 1987. The group was close to the outlawed Communist Party.

MONSTERS AND CRITICS
Yes! Pay the victims and their families, but make sure that the money is taken from the monsters' private Swiss Bank accounts. Mugabe, for example is very wealthy; having emptied the nations coffers.
