Raul Castro says Fidel looked 'great' on TV
Jun 6, 2007, 17:31 GMT
Havana - Acting Cuban leader Raul Castro said Wednesday that his brother, President Fidel Castro, looked 'great' during his first televised interview since temporarily giving up power 10 months ago.
'Great, this way I can now start to work less,' General Raul Castro told foreign media at an event some 50 kilometres east of Havana.
Cuban television late Tuesday aired the first on-camera interview with Castro since he underwent intestinal surgery and temporarily relinquished power on July 31.
The one-hour television interview came two days after the first fresh video in four months of Castro, who was unable to attend official celebrations of his 80th birthday late last year.
The elder Castro has yet to reclaim the government responsibilities he had held for 47 years.
On Sunday, state-run television aired new footage of Castro, walking unaided in a track suit and meeting with Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh.
In the interview Tuesday, Castro discussed his meeting with the Vietnamese official and other topics.
