Mexico City bull ring closed by authorities for first time
Dec 7, 2007, 20:12 GMT
Mexico City - The bull ring in Mexico City, which is considered the largest in the world, was closed by the authorities Friday, for the first time since it opened in 1946.
Municipal authorities closed the Mexico Monumental Bull Ring after its operators broke a law explicitly forbidding presenting more foreigner bullfighters than Mexicans. Last Sunday, it featured one Spaniard, one Portuguese and one Mexican bullfighter.
Bullfighting is very popular in Mexico, and there are bull rings across the country, as well as many estates devoted to rearing bulls for the fights.
