Sao Paulo police recover stolen Picasso, Portinari paintings

Sao Paulo - Brazilian police Tuesday recovered two paintings valued at 56 million dollars stolen in December from the Sao Paulo Museum of Art and made two arrests, police officials told local media.
The two works of art - a 50 million dollar painting by Pablo Picasso and a 6 million dollar work by Brazilian artist Candido Portinari - were found in Sao Paulo, but police did not give further details on the location or the two detainees as other suspects remain at large and releasing details could jeopardize the ongoing investigation.
Thieves broke into Latin America's largest and most important museum December 20, making off with Picasso's Portrait de Suzanne Bloch (1904) and Portinari's O Lavrador de Cafe (1939), among the museum's most valuable pieces.
Security cameras filmed the three thieves who took just three minutes inside the Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo shortly after 5 am.
