Mexico City - Five police officers were killed in a grenade attack in the western Mexican state of Jalisco, near state capital Guadalajara, local authorities said Thursday.
The attack was allegedly perpetrated by hired killers around 11:30 pm Wednesday (0530 GMT Thursday) at a petrol station on the road linking Guadalajara to Lagos de Moreno.
The state's Public Security Minister, Luis Carlos Najera, confirmed the deaths and said nine out of 10 grenades launched exploded.
The blasts also caused severe damage to the petrol station.
The authorities said other police officers were injured in the clash, without specifying how many.
