US, Mexico ink agreement on border security, trade
Jun 15, 2009, 19:04 GMT
Washington - US and Mexican officials on Monday signed an agreement to strengthen border security and trade between the neighbours.
US Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and Mexican Minister of Finance and Public Credit Augustin Carstens signed the letter of intent in Washington.
The agreement will create bi-national port security management committees, develop a plan for further cooperation and increase information sharing to smooth the customs process along the joint border.
The countries have already been stepping up security screening at the US-Mexican border in an effort to halt the flow of drugs and weapons.
