Mexico City - Silvia Raquenel Villanueva, a Mexican lawyer known for defending high-profile suspects accused of drug-related crimes, was killed Sunday in the northern Mexican city of Monterrey.
Authorities said the woman was shot and killed by three gunmen in a shopping mall.
The controversial lawyer had survived four previous attempts on her life.
Villanueva represented high-profile suspects involved in the case against Juan Garcia Abrego, the founder and kingpin of the Gulf cocaine cartel.

Are the mexican army killing lawyers to subvert the trial proceedings? if obama supports giving Mexico the Merida funds, then the US government may be funding the subversion of the Mexican judicial system. Obama must want to give in and support giving the funds so that the US government is not apparently hypocritical for torturing Islamist terrorists and then denying Mexico drug war funding for the Mexican army stabbing children and committing numerous accounts of torture on its own citizens. I hope Obama takes the high road and calls for the funding to be denied and calls Calderon what he is: a Bushy or a cartel sponsor. Legalizing drugs in America would end this war and Mexico would be secure and reap the tax revenue, as we would. Why in the world is the Mexican president supporting the War on Drugs?
