Two dead in Colombia after donkey-mounted bombing
Sep 12, 2009, 16:01 GMT
Bogota - Two civilians were killed and six soldiers injured in a bomb attack in Colombia Friday, in which Marxist rebels are believed to have strapped explosives to a donkey, broadcaster Radio Caracol reported Saturday.
The attack targeted a group of workers clearing illegal coca fields under military protection in Norte de Santander province in northern Colombia.
The bomb is believed to have been detonated remotely. The attackers are believed to be members of the leftist-rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
The group finances itself with the drug trade and has come under increasing government pressure in the last decade. The stimulant cocaine is derived from the leaves of the coca plant.
