US official in Honduras to push for end to political crisis

Washington - A top US official travelled to Honduras Tuesday to press for a final resolution of the Caribbean country's ongoing political crisis, the US State Department said.
Craig Kelly, deputy assistant secretary for the Western Hemisphere, was to make clear to both sides that more progress was needed in the run-up to the January 27 inauguration of president- elect Porfirio Lobo.
Kelly 'is there to communicate clearly to a variety of parties that there are still things that Honduras has to do,' said State Department spokesman PJ Crowley.
The additional measures included the creation of a government of national unity and a truth commission to help resolve some of the disputes over the past year.
Lobo, who was elected in November, is due to take office January 27 and hopes to put behind a massive crisis sparked by a coup against President Manuel Zelaya in June 2009.
