Jan 20, 2010, 20:08 GMT
La Paz - At least 15 people died when a Chilean bus crashed with a vehicle that had stopped by the roadside on the highway from Arica, Chile to La Paz, in Bolivia, Bolivian police said Wednesday.
A further 30 people were injured in the crash, which took place in heavy rain.
'The accident happened late Tuesday near Ayo Ayo (80 kilometres south of La Paz), when the bus coming in from Arica crashed with a truck that had stopped on the road,' the police statement said.
The authorities identified 13 of the dead as Chilean, and the remaining two as Bolivian. The Chilean bus driver was among the dead.
Police were investigating the accident and detained Wednesday the driver of the truck involved, which reportedly did not signal to others the fact that it had stopped.
