Eight men killed at a bar in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico
Apr 28, 2010, 19:00 GMT
Mexico City - Eight men were killed Wednesday in the parking lot of a bar in the northern Mexican City of Ciudad Juarez, the authorities said.
The attack happened at the Aristos nightclub at 4:35 am (1035 GMT). Authorities were investigating possible motives, as well as seeking to identify the victims.
Several armed attackers entered the bar and forced their victims into the parking lot. According to media reports, the dead were apparently members of the Los Aztecas gang, with ties to the Juarez drug cartel.
Ciudad Juarez, in the state of Chihuahua and across the border from the US city of El Paso, Texas, is widely regarded as the most violent city in Mexico. It reported more than 2,600 killings last year, of a total of over 7,700 across Mexico.
On April 8, the federal police took over public security in the troubled city, replacing the Army. About 5,000 federal police officers have been deployed in Ciudad Juarez.
