23 police officers quit jobs over drug violence in Mexico

Mexico City - Twenty-three police officers from the town of Navolato quit their jobs for fear of the violence that has claimed the lives of scores of their colleagues in recent months in the state of Sinaloa in northern Mexico, Mexican media reported Tuesday.
'We are already tired of burying our colleagues while people in the municipal government stand there with their arms crossed,' one officer told the Sinaloa daily El Debate.
So far this year, 59 police officers have been killed in Sinaloa including 17 in Navolato, the newspaper reported.
There are 168 officers on the Navolato police force, but only 10 showed up to work Friday, a day after one officer was shot to death.
On Monday, another local police officer was found dead, hours after being kidnapped.
