UN Security Council to meet on Haiti, Preval to attend
Apr 4, 2011, 17:44 GMT
New York - The UN Security Council has planned a review session on the situation in Haiti on Wednesday with the attendance of outgoing President Rene Preval and former US president Bill Clinton, the council president said Monday.
Colombia's UN Ambassador, Nestor Osorio, whose country assumed the rotating presidency of the 15-nation council in April, said several foreign ministers will also attend the session.
Clinton, who is the UN special envoy for Haiti, will report on the international community's efforts to help Haiti rebuild from the devastation of the January 12, 2010 earthquake.
More than 200,000 people were killed by the natural disaster. Some 800,000 Haitians are still living in temporary shelters because of the widespread destruction of property in the impoverished nation.
