No damage as strong quake shakes central, SE Mexico

Mexico City - A quake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale shook central and south-eastern Mexico on Thursday, with no immediate reports of damage, Mexican authorities said.
Thousands of people fled high-rise buildings in Mexico City and other cities when the quake struck at 8:11 am (1311 GMT). The epicentre was in Veracruz state, according to Mexico's National Seismological Service.
Civil defence helicopters hovered over Mexico City to identify potential damage.
Civil defence agency spokesman Elias Moreno Brizuela said that no damage was reported, though authorities were still assessing the situation.
