Evangelical pastor kidnapped in the middle of a service in Mexico
Apr 11, 2011, 19:15 GMT
Mexico City - An evangelical pastor was kidnapped in the middle of a religious service in the Mexican city of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexican media reported Monday citing eyewitnesses.
The authorities said, however, that no official complaint had been filed on the kidnapping, which reportedly took place Sunday morning.
According to the reports, the pastor was kidnapped by masked attackers in the Shanddai temple in the western Mexican state of Michoacan. The attackers reportedly entered the church and shot several times into the air before taking away the pastor.
Parishioners called an emergency number to complain about what they had witnessed, although a spokesman for the Michoacan public prosecutor's office told the German Press Agency dpa that the pastor's family had not officially filed a complaint.
The port of Lazaro Cardenas, on the Pacific, around 600 kilometres west of Mexico City, is a key spot in drug trafficking routes. Several drug cartels are active in the area, including La Familia and Los Zetas.
