May 21, 2011, 21:35 GMT
Port-au-Prince - Newly elected Haitian President Michel Martelly has named businessman Daniel-Gerard Rouzier as his prime minister, media in the country reported Saturday.
The US-educated Rouzier's nomination requires ratification in both chambers of Parliament.
Rouzier, who currently runs a car dealership, has authored books on Haiti's future. The poorest country in the western hemisphere, Haiti suffered a devastating earthquake in January 2010, followed by a deadly outbreak of cholera that his lingered since autumn.
Martelly, a popular singer, was sworn into office on May 14, after winning a March runoff that was delayed for months by disputes over the official results of the November first-round election.
