Vasca coach Ricardo Gomes in serious condition after stroke

Rio de Janeiro - Vasco da Gama coach Ricardo Gomes is in a serious condition after suffering a stroke during his team's Brazilian league match against Flamengo on Sunday, his club said.
Gomes, 46, has undergone surgery to relieve haemorrhaging of the brain, the club said on its website.
The former Brazil defender and captain was taken to Hospital Pasteur in Rio de Janeiro after suffering head pains during the second half of Vasco's 0-0 draw with Flamengo.
Gomes won 45 caps for Brazil and played for Fluminense, Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain. He has coached several clubs in Brazil including Sao Paulo as well as French clubs, Paris Saint-Germain, Bordeaux and Monaco.
