Colombian police used seized Ferrari as patrol car
Sep 7, 2011, 15:36 GMT
Bogota - A luxury Ferrari that used to belong to a drug boss is being used as a police patrol car in Colombia, as a message to criminals that their goods will end up in public hands, the Colombian daily El Tiempo reported Wednesday.
The Ferrari, worth 250,000 dollars, used to be the favourite car of drug lord Hernando Gomez, known with the alias 'Rasguno.' It used to be black, but it is being painted green and white in line with other police patrol cars.
Rasguno, a former boss of a drug cartel who was extradited to the United States in 2007, bought the Ferrari in 1991, but it has not covered more than 2,000 kilometres.
The car has been in the hands of Colombia's anti-narcotics authorities for four years. Several failed attempts were made to auction the vehicle.
