More than 2.2 tons of cocaine seized in Colombia
Sep 13, 2011, 0:21 GMT
Bogota - Colombian authorities seized more than 2.2 tons of cocaine near the Panamanian border, the Navy said in a statement Monday.
The drugs, allegedly belonging to the gang Los Urabenos, were confiscated on board a speedboat as a result of a six-month intelligence operation.
Four Colombians and one Honduran citizen who were on board the boat were arrested.
The Coast Guard raided the speedboat off the Colombian province of Choco, with the support of the US Drug Enforcement Administration.
The drugs were believed to be en route to Panama, from where they were to be taken to the United States. There, the cocaine seized would have had an estimated street value of around 60 million dollars, the statement said.
