Ronaldo joins 2014 World Cup organizing committee board
Dec 1, 2011, 15:24 GMT
Rio de Janeiro - Former Brazilian football star Ronaldo will join a three-man board of directors at the organizing committee for the 2014 World Cup (COL), but will not become its president.
Brazilian football federation (CBF) and organizing committee chief Ricardo Teixeira broke the news on Thursday, saying that Ronaldo was 'the perfect voice' for the World Cup.
The third person on the board besides Ronaldo and Teixeira is yet to be announced.
'There is no doubt that I will be the voice of the committee,' said Ronaldo, adding he wants Brazilians to be proud of their World Cup.
The Brazilian media speculated over the past week that Ronaldo would become COL president in succession of Teixeira, who is under fire over alleged corruption.
Ronaldo is a record World Cup scorer with 15 goals and won the biggest prize in football in 1994 and 2002. He ended his career this year at Brazilian club Corinthians.
