Dec 22, 2011, 10:33 GMT
Lima - Around 100 bodies have been found in eight mass graves in Peru, the state prosecutor said Wednesday.
The graves were located in the Ayacucho region in the Andes, where the Maoist rebel group the Shining Path was active from 1980 to 2000.
The mayor of Ayahuanco in Huanta province, which is part of the Ayacucho region, said there were probably more mass graves in the area, the RPP radio station reported.
Around 70,000 people died in politically motivated violence in the country from 1980 to 2000, according to Peru's Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
