Mexican soldier sentenced to 14 years in prison for organized crime

Mexico City - A former Mexican Army lieutenant was sentenced to 14 years in prison for passing intelligence to criminal gangs, authorities said Friday.
The soldier was active in the city of Mazatlan, in the north-western Mexican state of Sinaloa. He was arrested in June 2009.
More than 45,000 people have been killed in Mexico over the past five years in incidents linked to organized crime.
