Some 1,587 kidnapping victims rescued in Mexico over 5 years

Mexico City - A total of 1,587 kidnapping victims have been rescued by Mexican authorities over the past five years, the Public Security Ministry said Friday.
Of these, 704 were rescued in 2011 alone.
The non-governmental organization Council for Legality and Human Rights estimated there were an average of 45 kidnappings a day in Mexico this year.
Over the same five-year period, more than 45,000 people have died in Mexico in incidents linked to organized crime.
