Former Argentina coach Jose Pekerman to manage Colombia
Jan 6, 2012, 19:15 GMT
Bogota - Jose Pekerman, who coached Argentina 2004-2006, has been chosen to coach Colombia's national football team.
Colombian football authorities confirmed their pick late Thursday, and said that Pekerman, who played professional football in Colombia himself, had signed a contract until the end of the 2014 World Cup.
Colombia has not played at a World Cup since 1998.
The team appeared to be doing well under Hernan Dario Gomez, but he had to step down in late August in the wake of a scandal that involved him beating up a woman in public.
Leonel Alvarez was then appointed national team coach, but he was sacked in early December after Colombia got just four points in three World Cup qualifying matches.
